Hi there! I'm posting from Portugal...(am I the only portuguese around here?) This guy I met told me he had a Musicman HD 130 Head and a 2x12 Musicman cabinet lying around his basement... he hasn't played it in a while, he says the amp got serviced by an incompetent guy 5 o 6 years ago...the guy also stole his other 2x12. He asked me to check on prices for retubing, and maybe a professional checkup. He also said he might sell it to me for a low price, because he's not using it...but he doesnt have a clue on how much to ask. He sent me the following info: Serial Number : C005960 Chassis Number : 2475-130 EX Speaker Number : A12 G HD 67-7842 Model 212 HD One Thirty. So, any idea on the date? Is it the one with the tube phase inverter? And, how much do I offer the guy? I will see the amp for myself of course...but for now I can only guess |

The speaker's manufacture date is the 42nd week of 1978 (-7842). Music Man amps can't be accurately dated using the serial#. The phase inverter is the 'small 12AX7 tube'. If the amp is in perferct working and cosmetic condition, a guess of its worth at around $500US. Not working/poor cosmetic condition lowers the value considerably. (Check the transformers for visible rust.) Some folks find non-working amps in the garbage. You'll need to see the amp to determine condition, and the $ amount for needed repairs, then make your decision. Download a copy of the appropriate schematic from this site to present to a tech in the event that you go forward with this purchase. Also down load a copy of the biasing instructions on this site, as these amps do not bias like Fenders or Marshalls. Any competant tech who services Fenders or Marshalls should not have a problem with MMan, especially with the correct schematics and bias instructions. Amp Check-up: Approx 1 hour service charge; Re-tube: approx $100US (tubes and bias) Re-Cap: approx $120US De-Mod back to spec - Anybody's guess... Bad (export) transformer(s): stay away! |

The fact that it has a late 78 speaker(if it's original) tells me it probably doesn't have a 12ax7 PI tube. Of course, I HAVE been wrong(It was a long time ago). |

I saw something about the "One Thirty" ones having the PI Tube, and the "130" not having them... He said on the message that it had written HD One Thirty... |
