I am considering to change speakers in my 2x12 cabinet. I don't think the Celestion V30's in my cab is a good match for my Sixty-five Reverb top. It's too harsh and treble is ear-piercing. I've read on these pages that the Eminence V12 seems to be a good sounding driver with these amps. But I am concerned a about a speaker change that, on the paper seems to a downgrade. Has anyone tried both units? | ||

Not really but I'm surprised to hear the Vintage 30's are too brite. They usually mush up an amp a little. You might give TA a call at Weber or email him and ask his opinion. Those are nice guys and they usually have a good answer. Mike. | ||

I have heard that Celestion V30's are very midrangey. I have an extension cab for my 210-65 that uses an OEM version of the Emi Legend V12 and I like it quite a bit. I think the Legends are less expensive than the Emi Redcoats/Patriots, and much less than the now-Chinese-made Celestions. I think between the Legend V12, 125 and GB12 models, you should be able to find what you need at a good price. | ||

Henrik,you never kinda mentioned the type of style or sound you like to perform.Speakers tend to be the most personal thing i've found on this site.First price shouldn't be the only option unless you don't want to spend any kind of money,what i'm saying is there are of course great speakers that cost alot of money.Eminence are not exactly cheap speakers ,and agree with Mike if you want a sure shot go with Weber,also not cheap.In my life i've had 2 speakers i've really loved,one was a yamaha 4/12 cab loaded with celestion's made for yamaha,that thing sounded sweet,but they don't even make those anymore.Right now I use carvin British series 12's,which go in and out of production with those guys ,those are like a celestion with a huge basket for alot of throw.Thing is most all stars rave about the 30 greenbacks ,but Kurt Cobain made some pretty kool guitar tones using radio shack speakers so go figure .One last thing,the cab also makes a difference on the tone of the speaker,make sure it's solid with good baffleing ...ect,hope this helps. | ||

Thanks for your replies! I play in a rock band, on Tele or a Jazzmaster, style is somewhere in between some older Radiohead and Pearl Jam. I need the clean tones from this amp, and some overdrive and crunchy distortion from various pedals. The V30's provides a nice bottom, but I also get this unpleasant spike in my ears. The problem is mainly when overdrive or distortion is engaged, I've tried to roll off some highs, but then the sound becomes too muddy. I've once played a HD-130 with stock speakers (not my own) as I recall, the sound was full with a nice round top, the reason why I bought this amp. Webers could be an option, but it might be too expensive. I'll do some research on the Eminence Legend series. Btw. I haven't thought about this before. I've got a solid state Fender combo with an OEM speaker, probably Eminence, I could put that in the cab and see how i sounds... Best regards | ||

Just a sugeestion but you might try a small eq just before you dump the signal into your amp. They are little more accurate and allow you to edit out the one frequency the bites too hard. I use an MXR 10 band simply because it seems to me to be the best but I also have a couple of those cheap ass behringer eq's and they work pretty stinking good and they're CHEAP! Just a sugestion. It might keep you from changing speakers if that's the only problem you have. Mike. | ||

Alot of MM amps came with EVM 12 and 15" speakers, which have been reissued. Perhaps that's what you're buddy had in his? They are a bit pricey to say the least. Now I've never tried 'em, but Eminence Delta Pro 12A's are supposed to be copies of those - and quite a bit cheaper. They might be worth a look. I know I love my HD65 with the EVM15! |
