I bought my first Music Man amp, a 2/12/65 ax7, back around 1979. I bought it used from a guy who lived in a nearby town, and it became my #1 weekend work horse amp. Now I can't remember how long I'd been using it (Maybe close to a year? I don't know) but the sound started to break up and distort. Very nasty sound, it needed repair. I lived in a small town with only a Mom and Pop general music store. But I took my amp in hoping they could help me. Well, there was nobody around that could work on my amp so they took out the brains and shipped them to the Music Man corporation in Southern California. Some time had passed after they shipped it down and I had heard nothing about my amp. I was getting pretty nervous & curious about what was wrong with it and the cost of repairs. I couldn't take it anymore and called Music Man. I ended up talking to a tech who had the scoop and knew about my amp. At the time I really didn't understand what he was telling me about what was wrong, and the repairs needed. But I did understand him telling me they would also go through the rest of the amp and there was no charge for any of the repairs. I just had to pay the shipping. No charge for repairs, just pay the shipping for a amp that I bought used. Wow. |

I;m kind of curious-when you got it back, did it have the 12ax7 removed and converted to the SS driver or did they fix it and return it to you the way it was? They were converting some back then. I had one done by them and did one myself. Honestly, I didn't like the amp after it was converted to SS driver. Sold it. I still have the cool wooden crate that they shipped me to ship the chassis in with. |

Hi Mike, I got it back the same way it went, still having the 12ax7. Also, I'm pretty sure the chassis came back in a fitted cardbord box. No wood for me but that's ok.. |
