I've just found a Music Man 75 (no reverb, phaser) head for $100 at a garage sale and refurbished it. It sounds awesome but I'm wondering why we almost never see any posts about the model 75. Is this because there were so few or because people don't like them? Was there something wrong with them? | ||

I perssonally have not played through one so I'm not a person to ask. I always wondered how they got 75 watts out of 2 6L6's, which is what I'm assuming that is in your amp. I always assumed that MM was wishful thinking in that rating. I don't think there's much movement on them because that amp was produced close to the end and maybe there WEREN'T that many. If it's a nice amp, play it and enjoy it. | ||

If you look at the 1982 price list, the plain 75 head was $520, the 100B was $595 and the HD150 was $625. Not all that much difference to get more headroom. In my opinion it makes perfect sense that the 75 is rare. But like Mike "210" says, that shouldn't keep you from enjoying it! (Nice find, btw) -Lars Verholt www.captain-foldback.com | ||

Thanks for the feedback. I can see that the small price differential might have made it less popular. For the record, it does have two 6L6s and the board says it was made in '81. It also has "1/75" in magic marker on the end of the chassis which might mean it was the first of 75 units or might refer to "model 75", not sure. I haven't compared it side by side with any other MM models but it has a beautiful, rich clean sound (and lots of it) so I'm definitely keeping it. | ||

Yep i got a 212 75watt recently with a view to upgrading my 212HD. The "Hi-OFF-Low" switch on the 212HD is missing. Somebody has fitted an on-off switch instead. Would it work if I were to take the "Hi-Stan by-low" switch off the 212 75 and and fit it into the 212HD. Maybe I need the correct switch Hi-Off-Low.Just a thought. |
