Hey folks, I've heard a lot of different things about speakers. Just trying to figure out what I should do. Basically my setup now has the one original musicman speaker and one Eminence replacement speaker someone else popped in there. They look like two distinctly different speakers. Amp is pretty freakin loud but I think it would sould better with higher power speakers. I was going to take the old speakers and make an extension cab with them so I could play them with another amp if I want to. A lot of people are talking about the Weber California 10's. I notice their website says the speakers can handle 80 watts each but below the picture it says 60 watts. Huh? which is it. Anyway they look reasonably priced. Would these things take a beating from a 130 watt amp? Can anybody recommend some nice Eminence high power replacements? I never play dirty. I just like it warm, clean and loud with no breakup. I notice avatar's website has some pretty nice speakers for a good price (eminence) As always I appreciate all feedback.

Hey again Kevin: I emailed Ted at weber about the conflicting watt rating on the california 10's, he said they are 80 watts. I ordered them and got them today, took about 6 days.Besides looking great, I went for the aluminum dustcovers, they sound fabulous. Very clean crisp and clear, but will break-up if push hard with gain.Very reasonably priced good service.I saw some eminence betas rated for 250 watts on ebay recently, but I have tried eminence with not good results, although I havent tried any rated that high. I really like these webers and higly recommend them, but Iwould check with Ted at webervst on the power deal.I have also tried celestions vintage 30's sounded okay but not as good as the california's, good luck and let everybody know which way you go and how it works out. |
