I just got a musicman hd130 212, and its great, but one of the speakers has a 3 inch tear in the cone, im trying to decide if i want to get it reconned or just replaced. Does anyone know what the power, ohm rating on these speakers, what kind of magnet that have, etc. (i got the model with the eminence speakers in it) Thanks for the help. Nick |

I've had good luck in the past using black silicone to patch tears in speakers. Just apply it liberally on BOTH sides of the cone OVER the tear and use fingers on both hands to simultaneously hold and smooth the cone tear edges together with the silicone until it starts to set up. Then let it dry and cure at least 24 hours before cranking the speaker up. It should perform at normal or near normal tone and specs. Give it a try...it's cheap and it's worth a shot before you dump the speaker. |

i got both speakers fully rebuilt for 250 AU they are probably the best speaker repairs in australia or one of. they also wired up my cab with new good quality speaker wire, fitted a new input jack gave me extra wire and speaker cable from my amp to cab i was very very impressed with the quality of service and was recommended to deal through from someone who has been in the guitar making industry since the early 40's as well as being the peninsula's no. 1 dealer of musicman amps. total recoil is in thornbury, north of melbourne, victoria, australia. |

Thanks c@rlos from melbourne i'll bee sending my speakers to them as we speak. I'm from SA by the way. You may be able to help me on another matter, who in melbourne would you recommend to do bias adjustments and general servicing of music man amps, unfortunately I come from an area where valve technicians are just just not around. Thanks in advance |

Mike, I have the MM212HD and the MM 212 75watt. Apparently both have Eminence speakers code 67. Although the 130watt has a square magnet. The 75watt has a circular magnet. As the 75watt cab is is great shape I was intending to swap cabs! Im assuming that the cabs are equal in quality! I suppose my only concern is the speaker quality. Would it be right to assume that the '76 Speakers in the 130 watt are better. I will do a sound check on the speakers on the 212 75watt slaved from the 130watt to compare. Thanks. |

I have a similar setup to you... I have a late 70's 212 Sixty-Five, and an early 80's 212 Seventy-Five. You are correct, both amps use Eminence. The square magnet are Alnico's, and the round magnets are Ceramics. If there was a preference, I think more people prefer an Alnico but that is not a hard rule. IMO neither amp has great speakers, and both amps could likely use a nicer set. I'm still running stock on mine, but I'm thinking of upgrading at some point... |
