I purchased a MM 115 sixty-five recently, and since I have no idea just how old those tubes in it really are, I would like to re-tube it. I am new to owning tube amps, and the only thing I am slightly confused about is that little shielded 12ax7 tube. Can I go ahead and just get another 12ax7 tube installed? If so, any recommendations? Or should I do something different all together? Any and all advice and ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The 12ax7 is used as a Phase Inverter. Any GOOD 12x will do. I do like JJ's simply because they seem to last and sound good. There is no biasing or adjusting required. Mike/

Thank you very much. Therefore, the new tube does not need to be shielded when I replace it, correct?

If you mean the little metal sheath that goes over it, no...that is just to help protect it.
