Hello. I'm new to this site and to Music Man amps. I've been playing Fender amps for almost 10 years, and decided to buy a 212 Sixty-Five after playing my friend's. I like everything about the amp I bought from him, except for two problems. First, the reverb does not work at all. I've tried it with and without the footswitch. Nothing. I inspected the reverb tank and all the cables, but saw nothing out of the ordinary. I tried switching the plugs that go into the chassis, thinking that they might have been reversed at some point; still no reverb. Second, when I switch from high power to low power, I notice no difference in sound or volume. Is it supposed to be that way. Maybe I'm inexperienced with these amps, but I thought it would be a lot quieter on the lower setting. If anyone knows anything that might help me, I'd be very appreciative. | ||

I forgot to mention that when I was taking the tank out, with the amp on, it made a "boing" sound through the amp when I dropped the tank. | ||

That's means the reverb SEND is picking up thereturn signal from the tank. Most likely, the little transformer in the pickup tank is bad/broken and you just need a new tank. MM tanks seem to be a little fragile. If you have the 65 with the SS driver(no 12ax7), you will notice almost NO dif in sound level when you switch. | ||

Mike- Thanks for the information. Is there a certain type of reverb tank I should replace the existing one with? Any brand you would recommend? | ||

Accutronics is the only one that I am aware of. There is probably a mention in one of the archives of the numbers. I know it's been discussed around here a lot. Like I said, the MM tanks appear to be a little fragile. If you can't find it, somebody around here will remember the right part number. I don't use reverb myself so even though mine works NOW(I also had to replace the tank), if it broke, I may not notice for months! |
