Are all the preamps solid state in the Musicman amps ? I know the 150's are, but are all the 130's? Is the only thing that the 12AX7 does is the phase splitter? I guess so since you need a few more tubes for a preamp huh? I thought I really knew these amps well too. By the way what range of design would a serial # of B003553 for a 130 head be? Thanks |

I haven't made any hard corellations between serial numbers and anything else. Without specific production information regarding revs & mods, the serial numbers do little except to show where in the long line they were located. Only the early HD-130 amps (1974-1976 or so) had the 12AX7 phase-splitter. Later models had the transistor phase splitter.

Sorry about the brain freeze... yes, they all have solid state op-amp based preamps. There were different op-amps used throughout the years, but the only MM guitar amp to have a tube in the circuit (besides the phase splitter) were the 112RD-50 and 110RD-50 models which had a tube in the preamp stage, where they were used as a limiter.

I've looked around alot and have concluded that MM really made exceptionally few: HD 210 One*Fifty Combos. Thoughts Steve (or anyone else). Thank you. Marc MM |

The 210HD-150 model does seem to be a rare bird. I have seen very few of this model surface at all. Either they were so good that few owners want to part with them, or they were made in such small numbers that there are few left in the wild or BOTH! Steve
