Just purchased a 212HD-130 and the grill cloth has a small snag in it in the center. Been to many web sites and don't think I have see any cloths that will be an exact replacement of the origional cloth. If any one knows where to find please advise. Also, will be posting pic's of the two MM amps I have aquired in the last two months. Love this web site keep up the good work! Also included with the amp I just bought was the origonal instruction manual in excellent condition. Will be posting scan of it also. |

Is there any place known to man that might have replacement decals IE the gray and black plastic pieces that portray two people playing guitar? |

They aren't "decals", they are cast metal badges. To my knowledge, nobody makes replicas and the only way to get some would be to take them from another amp or cabinet, or to take ones you already have and make a silicone mold in order to mold your own resin copies.

I re-grilled my 65-112 two years ago with some black/silver I got from a boutique amp maker in Pflugerville, TX. Kendrick, I believe. Anyway, the cloth has apparently stretched and is not tight like my original 65-210's is. This stuff is a pain to get on so the lines are straight and get it stretched correctly. I want to restretch the 112's grill...any suggestions on how to better go about this? |

This grill cloth is made from plastic, not fabric. The importance of this distinction will become evident shortly. First, you basically get it installed reasonably tight and straight on the grill board, but don't put any effort into getting it really tight, put the effort into getting it straight along the edges. Then, you use a hair dryer or heat gun on low-to-meduim heat and start to heat around the edges (do NOT heat anywhere near the center, ONLY within a few inches of the edge. As you heat the plastic fibers, the grill cloth will shrink and constrict, tightening the whole thing and smoothing out any wrinkles like magic. It should take you about twenty minutes of circular motion around the edges from about 18" away to sufficiently shrink the grill cloth without burning a hole in it or making it look crooked (uneven heating). This is how the factory did it and how it is still done today (with variations for production quantities) at Fender! It works well if you are careful. Steve

Thanks, Steve. Good counsel. I've got it mounted straight and reasonably tight, so I'll give it the "gentle" heat treatment. |

Used the ol' hairdryer...and it worked great! The new grill is as tight as factory installed and the pattern is as straight as the seams on a hooker's nylons! Thanks for the tip, Steve. |

Can anyone tell me how to replace the grill cloth? I'm not sure how to take the front panel of the amp. I'm a complete novice. Do you need to take the speakers off? thanks, Lee |

The grill board is affixed to the amp cabinet by screws you can find on the inside. Disconnect the speaker wires before removing the grill board. Take some digital photos of everything before you disassmble things so you have a picture roadmap of how to get back to where you started. Once the grill board is free of the cabinet, remove the speakers and put them in a safe place (face down) to prevent any sort of damage. Replace the grill cloth then reverse the process when you are done. Steve

Steve, can I check in with you re whether the Grill Cloth discussed above is the exact pattern or similar. I'm asking cos I just got the same from Tubes and More, and the squares are a little longer. I just picked up an early 130 HD 410 which I'm going to replace the tolex and grill cloth. I appreciate that in the absence of something else, the Fender style cloth would be a suitable substitute, but would prefer to get in right if someone can supply the original cloth pattern. Regards, John |

Hi Steve, Apologies, I clearly got it wrong. I made the mistake of ordering the black/silver grill cloth, which suits the modern versions of classic Fender amps- Vibroverb & Deluxe Reverb etc. I got onto Mojo and can see the difference in the black face style 63000001, and have ordered same. Thanks. Kind regards, John |
