Hello there, I realise this is the same damn speaker question as has been asked before but any info would be welcome. I compared my 210 65 (with 12ax7) to a 112 65 RD , the RD had more bottom and was sweeter in the highs, then brainwave I plugged the RD speaker into the 210 , beautiful, it was all there. Maybe time to replace the speakers, This amp had been badly abused (not by me, No cloth, multible holes in the cones and an irregular piece of mesh nailed with 3" nails hammered over to secure it on the baffle, also caps fried). Funnily enough for my low powered usage after recapping and sorting grill cloth it was fine I thought, till now. I found this article http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/ Alt/alt.guitar/2007-05/msg02968.html on 10" speakers that suggested the eminence ramrod was a fine speaker. I know its all subjective but I really dont know speakers at all and not too many places to demo them here in Oz. Any thoughts on these new speaker offerings. Cheers Jeremy | ||

I know I'm not answering your question, but have you thought of just getting the original Eminence AlNiCo's repaired? Even if the magnets have lost their strength, they can be 'recharged'. I just picked up a 10" MM/Eminence on eBay that was out of a 210HD same vintage as your sixty-five. It'll get reconed and I'll try it out in my lil RD-50. Cheers, Lars Verholt | ||

well from scanning through the collected thoughts of this forum there seems to be a suggestion that perhaps the early 210 speakers were not that great or perhaps not as good now as their modern replacements. Always loved my 112 RD's depth and clarity and would want to have that as well in the 210, (just greedy I guess) Mind you the 210 sounds alright just not MM great ,that mean clean if you know what I mean. Hi J, I know exactly what you mean, it's that sound that makes other amps sound as if you've got cotton stuck in your ears. Just a thought from the left field: Have you checked out your speaker jack plug for connectivity? As mentioned recently on this forum, the original molded plastic angle plugs can sometimes go connectivity over time. I had it happen to me where the amp sounded distorted and sorta blaah until I cut off the jack and put a new Switchcraft plug there - clear as a bell again. As for a replacement speaker - I have an RD 110 with an Eminence Copperhead. That's a nice sound, good for cleans and semi-crunch. Cheers Lars Verholt | ||

I have a 210-65, and though the stock alnico's are holding up fine, I think I would go with the Eminence Copperheads if I did replace them. The Feb 2005 Guitar Player issue has a feature about the whole lineup. The Eminence Legend 105 is a less expensive alternative too. Hope this helps. | ||

I put Weber California 10's in MY 210-65. Love them but they are a jbl type clone and may be a bit bright for some people. You CAN however have them built with paper cones instead and they will be a little less bright. NICE speakers. They ARE a tight fit though with the big magnets. Mike | ||

Thanks for posts , Its funny I was buying into the whole alnico v ceramic thing for a while ( I do love some old rolas and plesseys) but began to realise my favourite speaker is probably the old greenback and also the sound of the 112 MM (also in mine a ceramic ). I think I like the depth of bass in these ( maybe also the amp is important  ) | ||

Well I finally bit the bullet when 2 ragun cagin came up at a cheap (for australia) price. I think they sound great, very alive and bitey but not ice picky, the 112 sounds mmm warmer and a little sweeter but these speakers probably arn't broken in yet but sound good as is. A question for anyone out there is what wattage were the original MM alnico 210 speakers as one is still good and was thinking of putting it in an isolation cabinet | ||

I don't know what wattage they are but just looking at the components and knowing they didn't exactly overbid the speakers, I'd say about 35 watta each. JMHO of course. I've got two originals down in the bat cave that I kept and always thought about building an extension cab for them but honestly, I have too much stuff NOW! | ||

Like I said, I'm NOT real sure about those specs but they didn't exactly go overboard on them. I remember the speakers in the 130's weren't exactly robust either but they usually held up. After all, who could stand to turn up a 130 watt amp THAT loud! | ||
