I have just bought a music man rd112 50, it has one 12ax7 and two 6l6. The amp has not been played for the last years and is in very good condition, everything is original. it even looks like its got the the original tubes inside. When i plug in, i get low volume, and a slightly distorted sound. I suspect i need to change the 6l6s and have ordered two matched JJ 6l6. My question is, do i need to bias(i have to leave it to someone who can fix it), or can i just put the new tubes in? |

The little rd50 is pretty much plug and play(thanks to Lars for the info on this one-I have NOT worked on one). They have a pretty ingenious setup that you should be able to just stick them in and play it. Now, I will suggest that you clean and re-tension the sockets too as I have a feeling you might cure a lot of trouble there too. I wouldn't pitch those old tubes. After cleaning the sockets, you might just try the old tubes and see. I would suggest that first. Mike. |
