Has anyone had good results/reliability, with the new production 12AX7's. I've just read too many times that this little ol' tube can cause some hefty damage if it shorts in a MM. Maybe there were just some bad tube production years. I have the original Sylvania, but don't want to chance using it. I also have some good used 12AX7A's, but..? Thanks for any input. |

I have good luck with the JJ's but I know other folks have rotten luck with them. I only buy from eurotubes and haven't had one bad yet. They are the only tubes I keep here other than my stash of Old Stock. I DID buy a couple of 12aV7's the other day to cool down the front end of my Vox that are really great AND cheap. THey are like a SLIGHTLY less gain 12at7(41 opposed to 45-no biggy). You can buy three aV7's for ONE at7. But that didn't answer your question. I think I have a JJ 12ax7 in MY Music Man at the moment and it's been in there for several years but I don't use it much anymore other than to record at home. I hear other people complain about rattly JJ's but NONE of them came from eurotubes. I think if it were me and I was depending on the amp, I'd probably bite the bullet and see if I could get a JAN 12ax7 from somewhere that was new and be done with it. Mike. |
