Hello there!

I'm about to buy a Music Man amp and I have two choices:

1. 212HD-130 with original speakers, it doesn't have the 12AX7 driver tube (I think).

2. 65-Reverb head, this one's in very good condition and has the 12AX7 driver tube.

Here's pictures of the 212HD-130:

Here's pictures of the 65-Reverb head:

I don't know yet what speaker cab I would buy for the 65 head. But probably not very expensive one.

Hoping for a very quick answer...

Best regards,
Olli Räsänen (from Finland)

basically they are the same amp but the question you need to ask yourself is.

how loud do you want it? everyone i know with the 130 runs it on 1/2 power anyway.

do you want (spring) reverb?

do you want to carry arounf a head and a box or just a combo?

and do you like the sound of combo's with the open back or the extension boxes witha closed back?

ps its a question of volume, portability and open/closed back sound.

in my opinion i would by the 65 reverb head (because it has reverb) and then by a 212" MM cab wich are f*ckn sweet as.

also what is the price difference???

hope this helps a bit.

ps can you get the MM cab as pictured on the site that is selling the head? and the 65 "looks" to be in better nick.

Thanks very much!

I think I'm turning for the 65 reverb head...
The 65 reverb head has also just been repaired, so it is in better shape.

What I'm worried is that as the head has the 12AX7 driver tube, it might be little bit less reliable. Is this a real problem?

Thank you for your help!

i wouldnt worry about a thing.
the ones with the 12ax7 driver are in FACT more sort after!!!
please try to get the matching MM box pictured on the website or elsewhere.
its bass style cab with 2 12" they sound awsome dude. if it helps my extension cab cost $400 AUS

ps they boxes are designed for bass but sound totally awesome for guitar.
they also came out with 2 speaker types - eminence - nice clean warm tone.
and ev's - balltearers

you may not know but there is 2 extension outputs on the amp so the combinations of 2 different boxes is almost limitless. although firstly i would go with the cab mentioned later on you could get anything form 2 12", 4 12" or 1 18"!!!
but i think the 212"RH130 pictured on the site will be adequet!!!

Thanks man!

I just checked my local stores and there was one 2x12" cab. It has two Philips bass speakers from 70s. The tone was warm and clean, I liked it very much. I could trade it with my current amp.
Maybe I could later get the real thing!

So I will decide tomorrow what my decision will be. I'll let you know. And I also post my comments as I get into action!

Thank you for your help!

Best regards,

OK!

I bought the 65-reverb head! And I love it!
The clean tone is so impressive. And the cab I bought works really well, IMHO. The head is in really great shape, like new I would say!

congratulations, im glad i was of some help
you would find that the extension speakers have a much warmer, bassier tone.
maybe one day you could the MM one to suit the box, like pictured on that site you told me about, mine cost about $200AUS, with 2 rooted speakers, if you could find one you could always use the philllips speakers.
this is because the thing that is special about this ext. cabinet is its design, more so than the speakers themselves.
