I have an MM 210\65 which is having real headroom problems, especially with single coils. Both my Strat and Tele sound like mush anywhere above half volume. I've tried adjusting the channel and master volumes to achieve a cleaner sound, but to no avail. Am I banging my head against a brick wall here, or should I reasonable expect much cleaner sound at higher volumes? Have recently put new Electro Haromonix tubes in and had them re-biased - but no change. Any ideas? |

Well, that's an unusual one. Most people say they're MM's are TOO clean. The cleanest setting, of course, would be with the master on 10 and adjust the channel volume up to the point that you want. If it dirties up too early, then you have a problem. My 2-10 starts getting dirty around 4 but not bad. Just a little grit. Above half is LOUD. I think anything is going to dirty up after that. Hell, my linear twin gets a little gritty after 4 but who can stand it that loud! If you still think that's a problem, maybe we can figure something out but that high, if you need clean above that volume, a bigger amp might be in order. Mike. |

One of your filter caps has probably gone DC.
