i have a musicman seventy-five head running through a 4x12 w/ ruby sp12cel speakers.. replaced power tubes,(6CA7EH)transistors (nte196)all new OP-AMP IC's (LM1458) x4 and i have very poor tone control.. as i turn up the volume (not master volume, but pre volume) it gets worse! especially the treble.. and the bass cannot go past 0 or else it has a really loose farty bass response! especially with palm mutes, what can i do to modify or repair this!? it has good tone at low levels, (i play through a 1968 gibson SG and it has a early marshallistic angus young touch a little bit through my MM)if i play clean (say master @ 4 and vol at 2, great tone with bass, mid and treb.. with quite a bit of response from the pots.. give it any more than that and it falls apart! |

Perhaps your tone caps or inter-stage coupling caps are leaky or otherwise aged. The Music Man tone controls were never much to write home about but they shouldn't introduce distortion in normal usage.
