I have a 212HD one thirty that I purchased new in 1979...had some unwanted noise so I changed my power tubes to a matched quad of JJ e34L's and everything cleaned up...since I have the solid state pre amp I use a mesa boogie V1 bottle rocket pedal between the guitar and clean channel on the amp for my overdriven tones...it comes with cheap chinese 12ax7a's that sound really gritty so I've been trying different tubes in it and so far the JJ 12ax7a's work best without any non wanted hiss or noise..I have run RCA black plate 12ax7a's (two) but the volume level goes down a bit.
