Is anyone interested in a effects loop for the RD-50? I found a way to slip in effects between the preamp and poweramp on the RD-50. I don't drill holes in vintage amps and I do not use the 600ohm line out jack, so I carefully removed the line out jack and its assembly of components (put them in a safe place for later) and installed a stereo jack in its place. Remove C-24 (Yellow .47uf) from the PCB, solder 2 shielded cables from where the C-24 was, soldering the .47uf cap (C-24)to the send lug of your stereo jack, and from the return side, add a 680 ohm resistor solder the other end to the return cable where the output side of the C-24 was, next to the input of IC-4/1. Solder the 2-shields together at the stereo jack ground terminal. Some may want to use a 1uf at the send and another 1uf at the return connection at the stereo jack for DC protection, since 2 1uf's in series =.50 or the .47uf. Of course the jack has to be wired so that when no effects are used, the loop is bypassed. I wiil look for the stereo jack part number from Mouser if anyone is interested. This works great! With low level effects like a floor processor (I have an old Ibanez PT-5) set the input level at about 9:00 and the output to taste as the now master volume, be sure to set the amps master or volume so that it does not clip these low level processors. I set mine to 2-21/2 and set the output level on the PT-5 to where ever it needed to be in the mix. Works great! These settings will vary with effects/processor used. I have a DIY D*mbleator tube buffered loop and an old Rocktron Multivalve Processor that works very well with the RD. I hope this helps someone who would like to add an effects loop to their amp. I have done this for a few players with very good results. | ||

The 2 1uf caps for the loop above.... Forget the 1uf on the return side, it does not work, .47uf on the send and on the return side use a 3.3k resistor there instead of the 680 ohm I posted above, this is much better. |
