MM Newbie!

Hi, my name's Darren. I'm just waiting on an RD110 50 that I bought from eBay. I've been looking for a decent priced MM for a while now, so I'm pleased to get one at last. They are getting less common in the UK. Hoping it will replace the Hot Rod deluxe I've had for a few years. I play surf pretty much exclusively so I'm hoping the MM will deliver!

What do I need to check when the amp gets here before I start gigging with it? I know the reverb doesn't work, but I use a tube tank anyway, and besides it may be just a new tank is needed.

I didn't realise that there were so many modding options on these amps. Anyone have any suggestions? Big and clean is what I want with maybe a bit of an edge to it, I have no interest in blues tones or lots of distortion.
Thanks in advance

Get to know it first

Congrats on your new MM amp! To me, the clean channel of the lil RD-50 is close to perfect as is. My advise would be to play the amp and get to know it. I suppose for surf music (not that I'm any expert!) you do want a long spring reverb, but you already have that covered. Good luck and have fun playing!

Cheers,
Lars Verholt

MM Newbie!

Surfs up. Welcome aboard, I would keep it as original as possible. As far as onboard reverb tank you can replace it with a 3 spring reverb tank with a longer decay. That will make the reverb better. I think they go for about $25.00 in U.S. currency. Does the tube reverb tank have that classic wet sound? If so sweet. Also you might want to consider getting it checked and
maybe recapped. Just for safety measure.

Is there enough room?

Hello Ronsurf,

You may find that there is not enough room to put a long delay reverb tank in the RD50 110. Just sayin'...... Here's a good site that may help you find a suitable replacement. http://www.amprepairparts.com/reverb.htm Good Luck...........mgriffin

Your absolutely right MG. I had one of those moments.
My 212HD-130 specs are far from the 110RD-50.

Another new member.

Good to see you / meet you all. I've had my 65 112 for ages, and I'm currently getting a 65 410. I'm going stereo with the 65s.
Thanks for the heads up on the reverb tank (above) as my "new" model needs one - it is MIA. I hope they also have the vinyl case too. And now for a question: Anyone know what the difference in sound will likely be for the 410 model. I'm sure that there will be a difference in sound between that 1 12 inch speaker and 4 10 inch speakers. Now, as I understand it - the 4 10's is going to have a better tone. Anyone got any ideas or knowledge? I realize I should know fairly soon; but I only know the 410's speakers "work" and not how well they work. I've heard that if I do need replacements for the 10s I should go with a Fender style, I like spank, sparkle, and warmth; with nice bass response if that makes sense and I play single coil Fenders.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.
OH - anyone know WHO (contact info / if they have been on this new board) it was on the "old MM board" (Maybe j or jj or j something ? ) that mentioned he could make a MM amp Badge? I tried emailing him and it bounced. It would be nice to have at least one of the badges anyways...
I sure am glad for this site!
asmith - is that 2 MMs I see there?

Hello Mr. Ronsurf,

Hello Mr. Ronsurf,

I was surfing (pun intended) this morning and landed on your band webby site, The Waterboarders. Had fun listening to some of your tunes, "Secret Agent Man" & "Squad Car." Back in the day when we where in High School, my brother played guitar and he loved the Ventures. ( I used to sneak into his room and play his guitar when he was gone. Don't tell him that.. )

Anyway.. Just wanted to let you know I enjoyed listening to your music. Thank You, Dave.
