110RD50

Hi guys,
Could I have some feedback on this : anyone who owns a 110RD50 amp,.. with a guitar plugged in, guitar vol at 10 (max), amp switched to distortion channel, when amp volume is at 0 (min) and amp gain at 10 (max), when playing the guitar, do you get any sound on the speaker ? Is it completely quiet or do you get a low level distorted sound ? Thanks.

Tried this and...

...with everything on 0, Guitar Volume and amp Gain on 10, just barely get any sound out of the speaker when playing, and it is distorted as expected. Dead quiet otherwise. My amp is fully recapped, all sockets and jacks cleaned, etc.

.. inertian,.. thank you. Exactly the same with mine. They are beautiful little creations aren't they.. :) I just had the impression it used to be completely quiet under the mentioned conditions but I guess it's just my affection. By the way I repleced the stock speaker with a Celestion Vintage 10.. It has now more high end detail and sounds sort of scooped in the mids compared to the stock Eminence.. however, I think the stock has more character.. and maybe is less piercing (the stock).. I'll need to let the G10 run in for a while.. Nice finding your comment,.. thanks :)

Speaker Change

Coincidentally, I received one of these in excellent all original condition two weeks ago, with original cover, and put a Celestion G10 in it last night. I agree with your characterization of the tonal differences from the original, but they are just what I wanted. There's a significant weight difference as well, which is a bonus for me. The channel switching is also very useful. A real bargain at hundred$ below the cost of a used Fender BFPR or SFPR reissue.

Hi rptowne, it's good you found this mighty baby,.. I agree with you on the bargain part. I have had no chance to further run-in the Celestion, so I have no opinion change on it's tone. One thing I noticed and felt it might be interesting to share is that comparing the Eminence stock and G10 speakers at home, I did in fact prefer the Celestion. But every time I used the amp on a gig, I found the Celestion to be quite piercing and somehow lacking base. The stock speaker seemed more "right for the job" and this matches Leo's attitude, though I know these amps were not designed by him. Anyway, I have in fact left the G10 in the amp for two reasons, one is I want to let the speaker run-in and the other being for feeling more relaxed about possible damage. I know the Celestion is new, ruggedly built and not tired as the stock speaker, so I 'm not getting any worries if the guiter cable is pulled off the guitar end while playing ! Whichever speaker is used, I have found this amp is very musical and matches absolutely any kind of music style. Pedals work great with it also. I really love the distortion channel, I know it sounds fuzzy sometimes, but try turning treble and bass to 10 (I also turn the gain to10) and cutting through the mix for a solo.... there is no pedal to match this screaming lead sound with so much character and response to your fingers or pick.. And by the way, this amp is SO loud ! It stands up against much bigger amps in wattage, speaker size, even speaker number.. it is adorable and a surprise for the guys watching you walk in the joint thinking you 're carrying a toy and then asking you to turn down the volume during the gig to let that Marshall be heard (no offence - I love Marshalls !) LOL ! Thanks for writing back and taking the time to read this :)

Speaker Change

Hi rptowne, further to the above speaker change post, I 'd like to add that now the Celestion G10 Vintage has been ran in to some extent and it feels more loose-sounding (in a good sense) , lost some of it's piercing highs and the low end warmth has improved. I find more character to the sound now and I think I like it as much as the original speaker but in a more "celestion" way. Cheers.
