Hello Musicman Fans, This is my first posting so I want to start by thanking you all for such a great site. I'm the proud owner of a 1978 65 Reverb head and here's my story: I played a 2X12 version of this same amp in a 'post-punk' band the 1990s in Europe - 6 years of heavy gigging all over the continent and it always sounded great but it was too heavy to take with me when I moved back to Canada. These days I play in a surf band(a part-time, strictly-for-fun-between-the-day-job-and-family project)and my little Deluxe Reverb just couldn't stay clean enough with a loud drummer so I was stoked when I found a head version of this great amp at a local music store for a reasonable price. It was in excellent cosmetic shape with no internal mods but I have since had the power cord and filter caps replaced and new JJEL34L tubes added (no 12AX7 here). It had the original Gibbs reverb tank in it which still worked but I have since replaced it with a Mods tank which I like better for the music I play through it. I play a Fender Jazzmaster or Tokai Hummingbird (both re-issues)into a pedalboard, through the head, and then into a 2X12 Fender Bandmaster vintage modified cabinet. It sounds huge with loud, punchy clean tones for days and the head and cabinet are much easier to transport than a heavy combo amp - this, along with its great sounds and features make it one of the best amps ever, ever made!
