Hi. Curious to know what make of speaker I have in my RD 112-50. Badge is MM C12G, 6Z8109. Just got this amp. recently and it`s a powerhouse for it`s size but with a Tele, it`s a little too bright, suggestions for replacment speaker?

I think you may have misread the speaker code. If it is 678109 this would decode to an Eminence speaker manufactured in the 9th week (March) of 1981. This sounds about right for this amp. Go here for the codes: http://www.webervst.com/codes.html The C12G probably refers to a 12" driver with Ceramic magnet & a "G" voice coil (whatever that is... that's a guess, it could be the OEM designator for MM as far as I know!). I would turn down the treble (guitar and/or amp), ensure that the Bright switch isn't ON (Or stuck ON) and drive a 15" extension cabinet if the Tele is still too bright!

Hi, I also got a question on the speakers in Music Man amps. Have a RD 112-50, which sounds terrific, and I?m sure everything?s stock. When looking at the model chart on this website, it seems that MMs were made with three different types of speakers: alnicos, EVs and ceramics, and mine seems to be a ceramic? But were there any important difference in quality, the EVs best, then alnicos or ceramics? I soon will buy an extra 12", and what do say you about a Celestion for a somewhat softer sound?

Speakers are truly a personal choice depending on what you want. The Electro-Voice speakers are well built and will project a LOT of sound so they are great for on-stage applications. However, the ability to "cut-through" a live performance results in a speaker that can sound harsh at home or in the studio. I should think that the Celestions would sound great! They are typically a more refined and smoother sounding loudspeaker than an E-V.

Thanx for your answer! People often speak bad about the speakers in MM amps, but I am quite satisfied with the original speaker in my RD 112-50. The whole setup gives a bright and very aggressive sound, but I actually once bought it because of it! But I guess a smoother speaker will be fine as a extension cabinet, yes.

My speaker may be on the way out on my RD-112 50. Rim has a number C12G 67-8141 Could you recommend a suitable direct/same replacement? Also, what would be a good upgrade? |
