I bought a HD-130 Head off Ebay which sounds fantastic, but the volume seems a bit lower than other tube amps I own and the HD-130 210 I owned. I-retubed it, still not quite as high a volume as it should be....no hums, no other problems... I got the JJ e34l tubes and a EH 12ax7 phaser....

I would say its sounds like its pushing 10 watts, which is still pretty loud.

It probably needs a full cap job and basic servicing. Tube amps start to sound "tired" with low power output and lifeless dynamics when all their caps are dried out. Steve

is it a hd130 reverb by chance? same thing happened to my friend's amp... and he went all wild replacing everything to no avail... turns out the rca cables that go to the reverb were just plugged in wrong, he just had to put the red where the white was and the white where the red was, HA! good as new.

is there any detriment to the amp or sound by just unplugging the reverb altogether?

Nope-unplug the thing. I don't use reverb at all on my 2-10. I'm not even sure I plugged MINE back in when I serviced it last. If the above shooter reversed cables and got volume, then the reverb send was powering the power tubes instead of the normal signal path. Wrong but effective sometimes. Mike. |
