Ive only been able to source 22uf's (nearest to the five 20uf, 25v mallorys on a DB-2 driver board as I can find) in 25v and 63v. I first ordered 3, then spotted another 2 I really should do at same time, so tried to get a couple at least smaller than the 1st 3 I got: The 1st 3 (f&t 22uf, 63v) are about 3 times the size of the orig mallorys. But in they went, with a bit of jiggling. Now the 2 I ordered after are 3 times as -small- as the orig mallorys!! Any problems would you say? they look a bit ridiculous next to each other.. but are any issues to be had? (fwiw the 2 smaller sized 22uf caps Ive put before the opamp pins 1 & 7 as I thought a 'pair' here made most sense). thx rc

The 2nd two are a generic but decent quality Vishay 22uf 25v btw- I was told these would be fine by Bluebell Audio (gtr & valve audio shop).

Vishay is fine stuff. Top shelf actually.

So you dont see any probs me using such hugely physically different sized caps within the same circuit section? the physical size comparison is prob as much as 12x between the two.

Here is what I mean.. | ||

Size means nothing(there's a joke in there somewhere!). Anyway, if you can get them in, use them. The newer ones have been getting smaller for years.

Wow-those ARE some big muthas. I think I MIGHT be tempted to get some of the others to go with it. Those are freaking HUGE for only 22@63v. Are those the only ones available in your area?

Yes, there are very few available 20-22 uf. I got them along with my f&t 100/450v filter caps you see & the f&t 150/150v ones(4 of).. so it made sense to get the 22 uf f&t as well.. I just didnt see they were quite so big. The other two although Vishay do look a bit 'laptop pcb' in comparison. As said the two tiddlers are coupling adjacent to the opamp pins 1 & 2 (C35 and C36), & I have no concern with legs touching with the biguns, or touching anything or the heatsink: Ive spaced them with due care & they're happy.. if that would be your only concern-? Its just they look 'kinda funny looking' isn't it?

Opamp pins 1 and 7 I mean. Ie I tried to keep my 2 similar caps for the 2 in the opamp section, so separating the bigmummas for other DB-2 duties.

Yeah, if they're in, leave them in. I put up with funny looking all the time. You should see the cap pack I had to build inside my signal tracer. I was too cheap to buy a cap can that I couldn't get the right size for anyway so it got a "bundle" job with 4 caps and hot glue. It doesn't get bounced so I didn't care! Mike.
