Howdy everybody! I have a Music Man 210 RD 100 Chassis is a 2100-RD-CAL. The reverb is really weak and noisy so I'm considering replacing it if I get the chance to do so. I'm wondering what the bag does for the reverb, and if it's necessary for me to use one. Doe anybody have any good experience with this? Also if anybody knew what model to replace it with I would be a happy camper too! (something with a little longer decay would be cool too!)

Bag does nothing but keep the dirt out. What are the numbers printed ON the tank that you have? They will tell us what the specs were for THAT tank and we can go from there. Mike

Have you ensured that the tank is not hooked up backwards? If it is, the symptoms would be exactly as you describe. Also, bad connections inside the reverb tank often cause funny sounding reverb effects. In my experience the bag not only keeps dirt out of the tank it also prevents damage during transportation and most importantly keeps unwanted vibrations away from the tank. At higher sound levels (reverb and in general) the tank will pick up vibrations from the surroundings and create noise in the reverb circuit. Sincerely, Lars Verholt

I have a couple of amps with the tank screwed right to the cab through rubber grommets. Seems that they are more prone to "earthquakes" from getting bumped than the ones that are mounted with the bag.

All quite true. It DOES separate the cab a little from external vibrations. Not absolutely essential but as the boys corrected me(and rightfully so), they DO serve a purpose. I keep forgetting that people actually USE reverb sometimes! I don't use it at all so I sometimes get a little one sighted. My bad! Mike.

Sorry for the really late reply guys! I've been busy as all get out. So Lars seems to have hit it on the head, and the cables were inserted backwards, crazy huh?! With that said, the verb still is a little tinny. No low end at all and it's still not as strong as it could be. The bag seems to be stapled shut so I haven't had the chance to unstaple it to check the numbers. |
