Thanks to this website I have tracked down a mint 210HD 130 series combo. The amp is clean, no rust on the transformer or anywhere for that matter. The amp includes the original documentation as well as the casters. I played it tonight and was very impressed with its warm tone and full, even response with my Strat. The amp is on consignment at an asking price of $499.00+tax. Is that reasonable for a near mint model which appears to have the 12AX7 inverter? I have been very inspired to check these amps out after learning a lot of my favorite guitar players have used them or are using them right now.

That price is starting to get on the high-side unless it is in excellent condition. Part of the problem with amplifiers of this age is the fact that most if not all of them will or currently need a "cap job" if it hasn't been done since the amp was new.

This could cost upwards of $125 or so depending on where you take it. If the seller cannot verify or guarantee that this has recently been done I would dicker with them a little bit.

Don't get me wrong, I think if the amp is in great shape and sounds good it is worth every penny and better than almost anything else you can buy for $500! However, you need to consider whether it needs "freshening up" as this will add to to purchase price.

A cap job is a good thing to do BEFORE you have difficulties because of the chance of further damaging the amp if the high-voltage caps short, posibly taking out the rectifiers or a transformer if the fuse doesn't blow fast enough!

Check the fuse to make sure it is the correct value. Most amps will exhibit increased hum and/or loss of output power before this happens, so just paying attention to the operation of the amp will usually allow you to catch a deterioration before it gets to this stage.

Thanks very much for the info. Very true about the caps. I was reading about that at Harmony Central, someone did a huge review in there that went over all that stuff to look out for. I plan on checking the amp out again later this week along with a couple others at another shop. I'll see what kind of info I can dig up. Thankis again, this site is awesome!

I wonder if that review on Harmony Central was the one I wrote on my 410-65 before I even put this web site up?

If it was a huge review with extreme detail on servicing the elctronics then it might have been you. If it was you that info was amazing. I read the entire thing which helped me get to know what I was getting myself into. But knowing that info like that exists on the net and the help provided by this site makes me even more confident I am on the right track by chosing MM.
