First gig since March 14 - stupid outlets

Dear forum,

my last gig before the big COVID-19 lockdown started was March 14. I used my 112RP-65 for that show. Anyway, fast forward to Aug 1 where my band finally had another gig, a private party at a farm, outdoors. I decided to mix up things and grab my HD130R head and 210X cab. I rarely use this amp, only for larger outdoor shows and the odd time at our regular indoor show if I feel like hauling the big rig. Anyway, the August 1 show is 45mins out of town, and before I put the amp in the car I thought 'hmm I should check that it works' followed by another thought 'nah, it should be fine'. So, I go to the gig, set up and find a power outlet in the corner of the outdoor shed where we are playing (has 3 sides). I know we have power because the small PA is already set up and making noise. I flick the power switch, and I get nothing - nada, zip, zilch, bubkiss. As if I wasn't already sweaty from it being close to 30C (mid 80s F), I started to feel drops coming down my neck and forehead.

Then I thought to myself - what's more likely: A Music Man amp not firing up or some random outlet in a shed not having power? So, I unplugged and plugged into the power bar that the PA was using - and bingo! I had Music Man power.

Nobody but me knew about this until I was driving home with our lead singer.

Anyway, the show went well - we sounded reasonably good and it warmed my heart when a younger audience member came up after last song and wanted to know about these cool sounding guitar amps (also had an RD50 110 for rhythm guitarist).

Glad to be back, next show is this upcoming Thursday for a video shoot. I will share the results when they are ready.

Cheers

I envy you folks still playing!

I played regularly for over 30 years, but the last 20 or so, playing has been infrequent! My wife and I still get together with her sisters and jam, (although not as much anymore). Our last "gig" was maybe 5 years ago when we played a set to benefit a school where one of the girls sister in law works. 120 miles away, and I played more slide than guitar, but it really was a lot of fun!
(We followed "Elvis", an 80 yo guy that lip synced to backing tracks. I hope I can move like him when I'm his age!)

Equally as screwed up is me

Equally as screwed up is me going to a gig several years ago, I plug in my amp (not MM- modded 50 watt bassman) and flip the switch on. NO LIGHT on the front. I go around going crazy plugging into other sources of power and STILL nothing damn it! Then I look in back- tubes are glowing! Indicator light was burned out! I had used that same amp the night before and the lamp was fine. Needless to say, I didn't tell anybody ELSE in the band how freaking stupid I was! Mike.
