first off, what does the 4053 in the 112rd 100 do?i noticed my amp has an nte 4053. i was thinking, while its getting serviced, about getting a better brand of chip to put in here. the closest thing i could find was a ti 735-4053 multiplexer/demultiplexer chip. is this the right chip? it is a 14 pin.

thank you for any information.

The 4053 is basically a multi-pole electronic switch in this application. I highly doubt you would notice any audio difference between brands as it is a CMOS digital part, not an analog part.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

are the 4053 and 4016 NTE numbers? I try x-referencing the numbers on the chip(MC4053B)and(MC4016) on the NTE X-reference website and come up with no matches found...they do list a NTE4053 but offer no data sheet info.

The 4053 is an industry standard CMOS switch. It was originally an RCA CA4053 but is available under a wide variety of prefixes.
