Is there a way to find the manufacture date of these amps by the Chasis number? Anyone have a link or any information? Thanks, Al | ||

I don't think there is a solid correlation to specific dates. The rule of thumb for the 65-series is: If it has a 12AX7 phase splitter tube, then it falls between 1974 and 1977. If it doesn't have the 12AX7, then it falls between 1977 & 1980. Removing the chassis from the cabinet and finding a handwritten date is the only way to date it to a particular year as far as I know. Most any dates quoted regarding years of production on based on the contents of catalogs. If an amp that is in the 1979 catalog is not in the 1980 catalog, that doesn't mean that a few weren't still produced in early 1981, it just means that they were intended to be discontinued in 1980. The 81 could also be the slot number within a run (i.ie. #81 of 100). | ||

I recently purchased a Music Man HD-130 reverb head with a 212RH cabinet.It is old but works great.Sounds great too.I am wondering what year the amp was manufactured.It has a 2275-130 chassis number and a seven or eight digit serial number.I think the serial number is 8002371.If you can help give any information on how I can date the amp using the serial number I would greatly appreciate it.I recall reading some information on this site that was about dating music man amps using the serial number but I can't find it now.Also the head came to me with 4 Sylvania tubes 6CA7/EL34.They look real old but they sound great.I would like to know if they are the original tubes.They are stamped made in USA on the black base of the tube.Thank you greatly for any help/information I can get.- Bob S | ||

Hi I've got a similar model on layby myself. Hd 130 Reverb head, 212 hr 130 cabinet. Chassis 2275-130, serial no B002139, haven't checked it out thoroughly yet but it sounds great. Any ideas on year etc Cheers Shaun | ||

i dated mine via the speaker as i dont know the codes - the rim of the speaker if you look in from the back of the amp will have some like A12 (alnico 12") and 1578 (15th week of 1978) - this applies for eminence speakers - the ones with the square magnet you would have to date the head via a serial number - or make an approximation by determining if it has the 12ax7 valve - then do a search on ths site - the info is here. i think the 12ax7 models were 74,75,76,77 whereas the 78 and 79 did not have this valve. hd130 were made between 74 and 79 i think do a search guys there is so much info on ths site - all these quetions have been answered | ||

 This is a HD65 amp where they laid the circuit board ontop of oil board like on the old fender amps. Serial #BN01009 only the third one I have seen like this. No date in side must be one of the first run of amps. This is Mikes amp in TN. |
