Hey folks - I have a 4FB3A1B tank that I can't seem to get any reverb out of. I ve taken it out of the amp and checked for loose wires, gave it a whack and it did indeed "crash". I connected the in and out from the tank via alligator clips and the reverb control did act as a secondary volume. I get no reverb out of the amp. What should I assume from all this? Tank OK and a problem with the amp? Any help will be greatly appreciated. | ||

Input to tank is bad, or the wire from the input to tank is bad. Check for continuity on wire and then if the wire is good, tank input transformer is bad. Time for a tank. | ||

Thanks Mike - Looks like a bad wire. I plugged a single RCA from the tank input to chassis and got some results only with my incorrect Vox footswitch though. I also have a rev/distortion footswitch from an RD and that one I only got trem on - no reverb. ( Any reason that footswitch won't work?) Confusing, but it seems like a new wire should do the trick. Is there any reason a standard tank wire wouldn't work as a replacement? | ||

Your reverb should work on a MM with NO footswitch plugged in-does it? Any single wire footswitch will work as long as it's not a momentary switch. | ||

It's working now - kind of weak-cranked to 10. Not sure how intense it should be. It's there but it's pretty understated. I don't actually use a lot of reverb but I feel like I want more out of this so I suspect something is still not quite right. I cleaned and tested the cables and they did register some continuity. Do these tanks just get weak? I always figured they either worked or didn't. So, rev & trem work OK without the RD footswitch, Rev & Trem work OK with the vox switch, and just trem with the MM RD switch. The MM switch has an LED that is not lighting. I'm thinking the RD switch (switch 1 labelled reverb, sw 2 distortion) is not supposed to be used on anything but MM's with rev and distortion. It could just be a problem in that footswitch too. Any ideas Mike? | ||

Sorry if this is obvious but check the input and output are not reversed. Should be a nice strong reverb, if cables and connections are fine check that both springs are attached and working on tank then the little transformers on the end of those springs arn't loose (can just wedge a little piece of wood in there if they are), if all that checks out maybe its in the onboard electronics? I'll take another pass at it today. Break out the magnifying glass too. Is it possible for the transducers to sort of give up? I'm trying to figure out why the reverb is sorta weak. I figure with it turned to 10 it would be way too much for me. I'll try a different set of RCA's too just to rule out the cable. Other forum posts seem to indicate the RD footswitch should work. I guess I need to work on that too. | ||

Well, I'm stymied. The cable is OK. The transducers both move around a bit - should they be solid? The RD (rev/distortion) footswitch does activate the reverb side the distortion switch does nothing for the trem - any insight on that can 'o worms? | ||

Everything - including footswitch - is now working as it should. No wiring issues except the footswitch. I just cleaned all the connections and reset the transducers and everything kicked in a bit at a time. Thanks for the help. |
